After researching several clinics, I chose Dr. Johanna Calderón's clinic in Ibagué, a city located in the coffee region known for its beautiful landscapes and tranquility. Colombia has positioned itself as a leader in Latin America, thanks to the quality of its professionals and its state-of-the-art facilities. This included transfers, hotel reservations, and tourist recommendations. This level of service not only made me feel welcome, but also safe during my stay in the country.Treatments: Dental ImplantsMy treatments included the placement of dental implants. The process began with a free virtual assessment, followed by a detailed in-person evaluation upon arrival at the clinic. Dr. Calderon used state-of-the-art technology to ensure an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. Throughout the process, the team was extremely professional and attentive, explaining each step to me and ensuring I was comfortable at all times.Strategic Dental Implants without bone grafts and Conventional Implants.I opted for strategic dental implants due to the complexity of my case, as I had little bone and wanted to have my crowns as soon as possible. This type of implantology allowed me to have the implants and crowns in just 24 hours, as well as having a quick recovery. Initially, I had temporary acrylic crowns placed, which will be replaced with zirconium crowns in six months at the second visit.I was also offered the option of opting for conventional implants, which are cheaper and can be performed with the help of a surgical guide, which reduces the invasiveness of the procedure. However, because a sinus lift was required, this meant waiting longer and making a third visit, so I decided to choose strategic implantology.In addition, the clinic offered me the possibility of undergoing conscious sedation supervised by an anesthesiologist for those who have a phobia of dentists, which I considered a great advantage.Bone regeneration with IPRFAnother interesting aspect is that, considering my case, if I had chosen conventional implantology, I would have been offered bone regeneration using the IPRF technique. This technique generates membranes from the patient's own blood, accelerating the regeneration process. The use of this advanced technology gave me the assurance of being in good hands.Accommodations and AmenitiesMy main treatment was in Ibagué, a charming city located in the coffee zone, known for its beautiful landscapes and peaceful atmosphere. I stayed in an Airbnb apartment with all the amenities, including a pool on the terrace. In addition, the area was full of restaurants and shopping centers, which made my stay even more enjoyable. I had access to a variety of dining options at great prices and two shopping centers on the same block where I could find everything I needed.Costs and SavingsOne of the main advantages of choosing Colombia was the significant savings. Dental implants in Colombia can cost between 30% and 60% less than in Canada or the United States. For example, at Dr. Calderon's clinic, the cost of dental implants is around $3.200.000 pesos per unit with conventional implantology and for strategic implantology they vary between $4.500.000 and $5.700.000 pesos depending on the tooth that needs to be replaced. With this implantology, in the case of molars, 2 implants are required to support a crown, which increases the cost, but gives the advantage of having immediate loading of the crown. In addition, the clinic offers all-inclusive packages, which facilitates planning and further reduces costs.Tourism in ColombiaWhile in Colombia, I had the opportunity to explore fascinating places like Cali and Cartagena. Cali, known as the salsa capital of the world, offers a vibrant nightlife and rich culture. Cartagena, with its beaches and colonial history, is a must-see destination. While Mexico also offers high-quality treatments, my experience in Colombia was noticeably superior due to the use of advanced technology and the focus on personalized care.
